01 / THE MAN BEHIND THE LEGACY

One life.
Many possibilities.

From an Edo heritage to a national voice, his journey expanded what Nigerians could imagine.

Historical portrait from the supplied Dokpesi family archiveFrom the supplied archive · dates and captions await family confirmation.

Born in Ibadan on 25 October 1951, with family roots in Agenebode, Edo State, Raymond Dokpesi pursued an education that took him from Nigeria to Poland. Published accounts describe study at Loyola College, Immaculate Conception College, the University of Benin and Gdańsk, and training in marine engineering.

His professional life moved through maritime enterprise and into broadcasting. Raypower’s commercial launch in 1994 and AIT’s launch in 1996 became landmarks in Nigeria’s independent media landscape. Those platforms brought African stories, public debate and creative talent to wider audiences.

Newspaper tributes remember educational support, community contributions and a willingness to help others. His friends’ founding appeal asks that this spirit live on: defending the voiceless, promoting good governance and supporting people facing hardship.

02 / THE PROMISE WE CARRY

A legacy measured
in lives uplifted.

A society where the vulnerable are seen, the voiceless are heard, and opportunity reaches beyond privilege.

The Friends of Ezomo Aleogho Dokpesi first gathered to honour him and support a befitting burial. Their enduring aim was a non-profit philanthropic foundation continuing his commitment to media, democracy, good governance and vulnerable people.

This founding vision places the poor, widows, orphans, homeless people, unemployed people and those experiencing distress at its heart. The programme plans below turn that vision into a practical starting point.

Supplied documents & editorial notes

The foundation content draws on FRIENDS OF EZOMO ALEOGHO DOKPESI.docx, PN Dokpesi.pdf, the LAPRI and REASDI proposals by Will Dokpesi, The Diabetes Wellness Initiative.pdf, and WATER IS LIFE FOUNDATION. CLEAN.pdf.

The foundation owner confirms that the foundation is registered and that the newspaper publication was completed in 2024. The supplied notice documents the registration process; the CAC number, certificate and exact incorporation date will be added to the governance record when provided. Current trustee roles, contact channels, image permissions and programme operating status remain to be confirmed.

The original appeal calls 29 May 2023 “Democracy Day”; the biography uses the death date without that description because Democracy Day was observed on 12 June. Name variants in historical materials are preserved in the private research notes. The display name uses Raymond Anthony Aleogho Dokpesi.

Historical budget estimates and proposed partners have not been independently confirmed. No impact totals, endorsements or fundraising results are claimed.

Proposed governance & transparent reporting

Before opening applications: appoint an accountable programme team, verify registration and trustees, approve budgets and eligibility, publish a privacy notice, introduce secure applicant accounts, provide an independent selection process, and establish safeguarding and complaints channels.

Recommended quarterly reporting: funds received and spent, application decisions, scholarship retention, training completion and employment, water-point functionality and quality, and policy-research outputs. Publish anonymised outcomes with beneficiary consent.
